Turn Summerside loose.Loverboy will rock the wellness centre this summer.Bill Schurman, director of community services, confirmed the Canadian 80s rock band has been booked for Wednesday, Aug. 6."What they've told us is that they'll put on a great show!"The band debuted in 1980 and had smashing successes with catchy hits like "Turn Me Loose," "The Kid is Hot Tonite" and "Working for the Weekend." And their ballad "Heaven in Your Eyes" romanced its way onto the soundtrack of the iconic 1986 movie "Top Gun."Loverboy took a break in 1989 but started performing together again in 1992.Schurman expects they'll likely play a mix of old and new.He said booking Loverboy represents part of the city's ongoing efforts to attract entertainment."We're hoping that we'll have maybe three concerts this summer," he said, adding they've been working on outdoor events and shows for next year.Schurman said more details would follow about the Loverboy concert - including ticket pricing, confirmation of the opening act and final plans for the setup of the venue. The event will be licensed with a planned start time of 7 p.m.The wellness centre provided a venue for a Trooper rock concert last summer. Schurman said the city plans to build on that experience and learn from touring other venues.Visit loverboyband.com
