When the snow melts, it gets warmer, and spring arrives,
many start to dream about summer. I do as well. I love the warm weather, going
to our Island beaches, lobsters, and of course firing up the BBQ as well. With
that said, I also start to formulate a plan for a one-night activity I have
been doing for the last 10 years or so. I probably started this project the
fall of 2008, one year after becoming the City Councillor for my area. Since I
enjoy Halloween (understatement), I wanted to support the neighbourhood, so I
began to decorate my garage on Halloween night. It started small, with only
one side of my two-car garage being decorated. Trick or Treaters walk through
the garage and get a treat bag once they make it to the end (everybody gets a
treat bag even if they do not enter). It grew year two with the purchase of an animatronic
witch. I would make a lot of my own props by stuffing coveralls or costumes and
placing a mask on the prop. Over the years it has grown with more props and
decorations. Seems to be a hit with the neighbourhood and my kids are now at
the age where they help me decorate. I
will keep doing this every year as long as the neighbourhood kids enjoy and my kids seem interested. It is
not that elaborate, but we have fun with it. Here are a few pictures from 2017
