A secondary stroke prevention clinic is now serving patients at Prince County Hospital in Summerside, P.E.I.
The clinic will help stroke patients in Prince County to tackle the risk factors that led to the stroke, such as high blood pressure, smoking, lack of exercise, obesity and high cholesterol.
If the clinic is successful these services will be expanded to other parts of P.E.I.
The secondary stroke prevention clinic is part one of a three-part stroke care model being launched on the Island.
Stroke is the leading cause of disability and the third highest cause of death on P.E.I.
