Speeding on Read Drive

The speeding along this stretch of provincial road is of major concern to residents. I would like to see the speed limit along this roadway be 50 KM within the City limits, starting at the red bridge and extend all the way to Cavendish Agri. This can easily be accomplished. I have sent two requests to the Province to have this done.
Another approach I would like to see happen and I feel could prevent an accident is widening the highway and adding a turning lane into Meadow Heights sub-division. I witnessed an accident here with a resident with small children trying to turn into the subdivision and they were hit from behind. Luckily nobody was hurt but I believe a turning lane into the subdivision could assist in preventing future occurrences such as this. This obviously would be costly however would be a good investment. I have sent a request to the province about this. Also near Perry sub-division is of concern as well- perhaps go even so far as having traffic lights going into that sub-division.

Policing of Read Drive- When Summerside amalgamated with Wilmot and St. Eleanors in 1995, the agreement with the province was that at the province’s expense, policing on provincial roads in Summerside would remain the responsibility of the RCMP (contracted by the province). This issue will need to be revisited in my opinion as I am really disappointed in this service. I am going to meet with the RCMP about this but my suspicion is they are under resourced. Perhaps we also need to review photo-radar on the road.
